What you can learn from this Dutch chansonnière
Apr 01, 2020Life lessons from a Dutch Chansonnière.
She passed away last week. Liesbeth List. You probably don't know her and I have to say, I did not even like her work that much.
But what she shared in an interview which aired just after her passing is mind-blowing.
Why?
She shares basically everything she knows about life & the lessons she learned. Lessons we all could benefit from.
They're universal.
Imagine this. You were born in the Dutch East Indies and from that moment on lived in a Japanese camp. Your mother commits suicide when you are only 6 years old and your father gives you away to another family.
Then, my sweet Judy, you are behind in life.
In her case, she was already ahead.
You see, she already had lost everything. Her sense of safety. Security.
She only could win.
She found her strength early on in life. She desired to sing. In fact, she did. With her soulmate Ramses Shaffy, Aznavour, Bécaud, Brel but also solo in her role as Edith Piaf in a musical. Her guideline if something to do or not? Joy. Fun. If it made her smile.
From one project she ended up in another. And once just after she was out of work she checked herself:
"I have a husband, a daughter, a home. I have everything. Everything. Then I also have to make sure that I am happy." Call it coincidence or not. Another Dutch singer, Frank Boeijen, called her within three weeks. If she wanted to collaborate and sing a duet together?
Her entire life story carries just about all the advice from the entire self-help literature.
Live in the now.
Let pleasure be your motivation. (Follow your bliss!)
Bring out your soul energy - be it singing, writing, painting, talking, whatever.
When you are out of the flow, look up your flow again. By looking for what makes you intensely happy.
Do not live in fear. "Don't be afraid," said Liesbeth several times.
Every person has a journey of heroism in life (look into the work of Joseph Campbell). Free yourself from all the fear that keeps you from doing whatever your soul is calling you to.
She just shared her story.
That's it right.
That is enough.
You are enough. Me too by the way.
In times like this when the world is in lockdown because of a virus, we look for love and warmth in the presence of each other. By simply sharing who we really and foremost are.
I can only be grateful.
Let's love life, shall we?
Comme une chansonnière ;-)
